Also known as the Our Lady of the Abandoned Church, the Santa Ana Church is a gloriously imposing structure standing tall and proud in the heart of the historical district of Santa Ana. Seek out a suitable hotel in Manila such as The Heritage Hotel Manila known to be a conveniently located Manila Hotel to lodge in during your visit to ensure convenience. Built under the supervision of Fr. Vicente Ingles, OFM, the church today stands on the site of the first Franciscan mission established outside Manila in the year 1578. While the cornerstone of the present church was laid in the year 1720, the site itself dates back to the prehistoric times. Many historical artefacts dating back to 12th and 13th century AD had been found at the site during archaeological excavations, giving the site an increased historical importance. The exquisite image of Our Lady of the Abandoned is perhaps the most remarkable feature here while a statue of St. Ann, the church’s original patron with the child Mary at her side still stands in a niche above this image. However, it is widely believed that it was through the grace of Our Lady of the Abandoned that Santa Ana had escaped the absolute devastation brought on Manilla by the World War II.
