The secluded Po Lin Monastery in Hong Kong attracts many visitors since the completion of as the Big Buddha or as it is formally known as, the Tian Tan Buddha in 1993.
Location
The Big Buddha statue is located in Ngong Ping in the lush mountains of the Lantau Island in front of the Po Lin Monastery and is considered one of the most important Buddhist places of worship in Hong Kong.
Architecture
The spectacular bronze Buddha sits 34m high facing north overlooking the Chinese people benevolently while the incline of the head and the right hand is raised in blessing. The marvellous statue which took over 12 years to be built, draws devotees from all over the world.
How to Get There
The island can be easily accessed from many kinds of accommodation provided by entities such as the Park Hotel Group, one of many luxury hotels in Asia. Visitors can board the ferry from Central Pier 6 to Mui Wo, then take New Lantao Bus 2 to Ngong Ping Village, which takes around 40 minutes If not a Ngong Ping Cable would take 25 minutes along with an additional 10-minute walk to the monastery.

Upon visiting the place and having taken a good look at the splendid statue, guests can take a stroll in a beautifully landscaped garden and possibly get a bite at the popular vegetarian restaurant near the monastery.
